If you hold a boiler attendant certificate and you are weighing up a move in Gujarat, the honest answer to "what should I be earning?" is a range, not a number. This is what the public data actually shows for 2026, what sits behind the spread, and how to read an offer before you accept it.
Reported boiler operator pay in Gujarat averages around ₹29,500 a month — roughly 17% above the national average of about ₹25,100. Live job postings across India span roughly ₹15,000 to ₹45,000 a month. Gujarat sits above the national middle because of its petrochemical, port and process clusters, where boilers are larger and certified attendants are scarce.

The state average conceals a spread of nearly two to one between its industrial belts. Reported averages by city:

Gandhidham is currently the highest-paying location for boiler operators anywhere in India on this dataset. Jamnagar is not separately reported, but as a refinery and petrochemical hub its certified-operator roles compete in the upper half of the state range.
Five things explain most of the gap between a ₹20,000 job and a ₹40,000 one.
1. Certificate class. A 2nd class certificate qualifies you for boilers up to your state's specified limits. A 1st class certificate opens higher-pressure boilers and shift-incharge posts — and those are the postings that sit in the top half of the range. The certificate does not pay you more by itself; it makes you eligible for the jobs that do. 2. Plant type. A refinery, fertiliser or large petrochemical boiler house pays differently from a textile or food-processing unit running a small package boiler. Bigger heating surface, higher pressure, tighter statutory scrutiny — all of it shows up in the offer.
3. Shift pattern and responsibility. Straight-day roles pay less than rotating 24/7 shifts. Shift incharge, where you sign for the utility block for eight or twelve hours, pays more again because the accountability is real.
4. DCS and control-room capability. Operators who can run the boiler from a DCS, read trends and act on them, rather than only working the field, are a materially smaller pool. Some of the highest-paying boiler postings in India are explicitly DCS operator roles.
5. Location and employer type. Established process employers publish some of the highest boiler operator packages in India — Thermax at around ₹5.28 lakh a year and Gujarat Ambuja Exports at around ₹4.05 lakh a year appear among the top-paying employers on the same dataset. This matters for one reason: it is the floor an employer may not go below, not the rate a certified boiler attendant should accept. A statutory certificate, statutory responsibility and 24/7 shift working are worth well above the skilled minimum. If an offer for a certified boiler role lands near ₹13,000 to ₹15,000 a month, that is a signal to ask hard questions about the plant, the boiler size and whether the role is genuinely a certified post.
The most common disappointment in this trade is not a low offer — it is a misread one. Before you accept, get all of this in writing:
The realistic path, in order of return on effort: complete the attested boiler-house service and clear the 1st class examination; get genuine DCS and control-room hours logged and reflected on your CV; take the shift-incharge step when it is offered, even at a modest initial increase, because it changes which jobs you are eligible for afterwards; and keep your certificate current and your state transfers in order so a good vacancy in another district is not lost to paperwork.
Broadening beyond the boiler itself helps too. Operators who can also run compressed air, cooling water and water treatment are far easier to place into senior utility roles than boiler-only candidates.

Gandhidham reports the highest boiler operator average in India at ₹40,320 a month. Smaller industrial towns with lighter plant tend to sit nearer the state's skilled minimum wage.
For 1 April to 30 September 2026, Gujarat's notified skilled rate is ₹524.50 per day in Zone I and ₹512.50 in Zone II, inclusive of variable dearness allowance — roughly ₹13,600 and ₹13,300 a month. That is a legal floor for skilled work, not a market rate for a certified boiler attendant. Any boiler operator offer near that number is worth questioning.
Ask for both, in writing. CTC usually includes the employer's PF contribution, ESI, gratuity provision and sometimes a bonus that only pays out annually. In-hand is what reaches your account each month. A ₹4.2 lakh CTC and a ₹4.2 lakh in-hand package are very different jobs.
